Abstract

U ovom radu opisana je implementacija sustava koji generira ontologiju semantičkog weba iz relacijske baze u PostgreSQL sustavu. U teorijskom dijelu rada opisani su osnovni koncepti relacijskih baza podataka i semantičkog weba te tehnologije korištene pri razvoju različitih dijelova sustava: PostgreSQL JDBC upravljački program, Apache MetaModel, OWL API, graphviz – java. Definirana su pravila mapiranja elemenata relacijske baze u elemente ontologije semantičkog weba. Korisničko sučelje omogućuje korisniku spajanje na željenu bazu te definiranje dodatnih postavki mapiranja. Prije same izrade ontologije korisnik može odabrati želi li mapirati i instance relacijske baze te dodati hijerarhiju klasa. Korisniku je također omogućeno stvaranje grafa koji prikazuje metamodel ontologije. Graf se može generirati za bilo koju postojeću ontologiju, a ne samo onu nastalu mapiranjem.

Abstract (english)

The purpose of this thesis is to illustrate implementation of application for generating ontology from relational database implemented in PostgreSQL database management system. Theoretical part of thesis covers basic concepts used in relational databases and semantic web and describes technologies used in different parts of application implementation: PostgreSQL JDBC driver, Apache MetaModel, OWL API, graphviz – java. Rules for mapping relational database elements to semantic web ontology elements are defined. Implemented user interface allows users to connect to chosen database and to define additional mapping setup. User can choose whether he wants to map database instances and add hierarchical relationships between classes. Furthermore, user can choose to generate graph showing ontology metamodel. Metamodel graph can be generated not only for ontology created by mapping, but for any other existing ontology.
