Abstract

Prikaz videa od 360 stupnjeva putem tehnologije virtualne stvarnosti (engl. Virtual Reality, VR) omogućeno je mapiranjem sferičnog videa u 3D geometriju. Koristeći VR zaslon na glavi, korisnikova točka gledišta nalazi se u središtu sfere te se može pomicati oko triju osi (3 degrees of freedom, 3DoF). Strujanje 360-videa zahtjeva velike brzine prijenosa, što predstavlja izazov za mrežu. Zbog ograničenog mrežnog kapaciteta, potrebno je istražiti mogućnosti smanjenja i optimiranja brzine prijenosa videa. Određene tehnike baziraju se na praćenju korisnikovog područja gledanja (engl. Field of View, kratica: FoV) te prijenosa videa tako da je dio koji korisnik trenutno promatra prikazan u velikoj rezoluciji dok je dio koji korisnik ne gleda prikazan u manjoj rezoluciji.

Cilj ovog rada je istražiti i opisati mehanizme strujanja videa od 360 stupnjeva putem komunikacijske mreže. Proučena je i opisana norma Omnidirectional Media Format (OMAF), predložena od strane MPEG-a, koja standardizira format medija za razvoj aplikacija temeljenih na prikazu videa od 360 stupnjeva. Nadalje, implementiran je i evaluiran laboratorijski prototip kojim se ostvaruje prilagodljivo strujanje videa od 360 stupnjeva i prikaz putem zaslona pametnog telefona.

Abstract (english)

360-degree video playback through Virtual Reality (VR) technology is made possible by mapping spherical video to 3D geometry. Using a VR head-mounted display (HMD), the user's point of view is at the center of the sphere and can be moved around three degrees of freedom (3DoF). 360-video streaming requires high bit rates, which is a challenge for the network. Due to the limited network capacity, it is necessary to explore the possibilities of reducing and optimizing the video transmission speed. Certain techniques are based on monitoring the user's field of view (abbreviation: FoV) and transmitting video so that the part currently viewed by the user is displayed in high resolution while the non-viewing part is displayed in lower resolution.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate and describe the mechanisms of 360-degree video streaming through a communication network. The Omnidirectional Media Format (OMAF) standard, proposed by MPEG, which standardizes the media format for the development of 360-degree video display applications, has been studied and described. Furthermore, a laboratory prototype was implemented and evaluated to provide adaptive 360 degree video stream and playback through the smartphone screen.
