Abstract

A presented methodology for frequency-domain characterization of two-port DC-biased components is based on combination of series and shunt method. The test structure based using a bias tee is designed to allow the S-parameter measurements of the inductive components under different DC current levels. A methodology for time-domain characterization of power inductor losses is designed to allow the precise estimation of the power losses caused by the triangular current waveform. The designed setup allows adjustment of the parameters of the current waveform. The setup is based on GaN switches to allow the characterization of power losses in MHz range. A digital integrated circuit for adjustment of timing parameters of control signals is designed in a 0.18-µm CMOS technology. The resolution of dead-time adjustment of 120 ps is achieved. An impact of timing parameters of control signals is analyzed using the designed integrated circuit. The radiated emissions that are measured in a semi-anechoic chamber. The results show that an increase of radiated emissions is caused by the longer dead times. The conducted electromagnetic emissions are measured at the input of the converter using the EMI receiver and line impedance stabilization network. The dependence of the generated conducted emissions on the duty cycle is modelled using the quadratic regression polynomials. The scientific contributions of this dissertation are the following: integrated circuit architecture for adjustment of duty cycle and dead times of the control signals of switching converters with the precision of 120 ps, model of electromagnetic conducted emissions of synchronous switching converters, method for the characterization of DC losses and AC inductor losses at high frequencies caused by non-sinusoidal currents through inductors and broadband model of power inductors at full-load bias current.

Abstract (croatian)

Predložena metodologija za karakterizaciju komponenata u frekvencijskoj domeni te pri različitim vrijednostima istosmjerne struje koristi prednosti serijske i paralelne metode. Projektirana je testna mjerna struktura koja se temelji na sklopu za postavljanje statičke radne točke za mjerenje S-parametara induktivne komponente pri vrijednostima statičke struje do 5 A. Predložena je i metodologija za karakterizaciju gubitaka snage u zavojnicama u vremenskoj domeni. Mjerni sklop omogućuje podešavanje parametara valnog oblika struje. Mjerni sustav temelji se na prekidačkom pretvorniku koji koristi GaN sklopke čime je omogućena karakterizacija gubitaka snage u zavojnicama do nekoliko megaherca. Digitalni integrirani sklop za podešavanje vremenskih parametara upravljačkih signala projektiran je u 0.18-μm CMOS tehnologiji. Ostvarna preciznost podešavanja kašnjenja iznosi 120 ps. Utjecaj parametara upravljačkih signala na elektromagnetske emisije analiziran je koristeći projektirani integrirani sklop. Rezultati mjerenja u poluječnoj komori pokazuju da zračene smetnje rastu s porastom mrtvih vremena zbog veće struje na ulazu u prekidački pretvornik. Vođene elektromagnetske smetnje mjerene su na ulazu projektiranog pretvornika koristeći EMI prijemnik te mrežu za stabilizaciju impedancije. Ovisnost vođenih smetnji o prijenosnom naponskom omjeru opisana je ponašajnim modelom koristeći polinom drugog stupnja. Doprinosi ovog rada uključuju: arhitekturu integriranog sklopa za precizno podešavanje radnog omjera i mrtvog vremena kontrolnih signala prekidačkih pretvornika s preciznošću od 120 ps, model vođenih elektromagnetskih emisija sinkronih prekidačkih pretvornika, metodu karakterizacije istosmjernih gubitaka i izmjeničnih gubitaka zavojnica na visokim frekvencijama uzrokovanih nesinusoidalnom strujom kroz zavojnicu i širokopojasni model zavojnica snage pri punom strujnom opterećenju.
