Abstract

U ovome radu su analizirani podaci koji su dobiveni mjerenjem vremena izvođenja algoritama za kriptiranje SHA-1 i SHA-256 na procesoru RISC-V. Naveden je cjelokupni postupak koji je potreban da se uspostavi radno okruženje koje je potrebno za izvođenje tih algoritama, kako bi se cijeli postupak izvođenja mogao reproducirati. Također je dano kratko objašnjenje korištenih algoritama i samog procesora RISC-V koje je potrebno za razumijevanje rezultata ovog rada.
Analiza vremena izvođenja algoritama SHA-1 i SHA-256 na procesoru RISC-V je pokazala da SHA-1 isti broj znakova brže šifrira nego SHA-256 i da se ta razlika u brzini povećava s istodobnim povećanjem broja znakova koji se šifriraju. Još je dodatno analizirano vrijeme izvođenja istih algoritama na komercijalnijem procesoru, Intel i5-2500, kako bi se vremena usporedila i time dobio bolji uvid u općenitu brzinu procesora RISC-V. Uspoređivanjem vremena izvođenja algoritama SHA-1 i SHA-256 na procesorima RISC-V i Intel i5-2500, zaključeno je da Intel i5-2500 ima višestruko veću brzinu nego RISC-V te da je smanjenje brzine šifriranja pri većem broju znakova na procesoru Intel i5-2500 znatno manje nego na procesoru RISC-V.

Abstract (english)

This paper analyzes data which is obtained from measurements of SHA-1 and SHA-256 cryptographic algorithms runtime on processor RISC-V. The entire procedure needed for establishing working enviroment, which is further needed for execution of algorithms, is listed so that whole process could be reproduced. Brief explanation of used algorithms as well as explanation of processor RISC-V is also given, both of which are needed for understanding results presented in this paper.
Analysis of SHA-1 and SHA-256 algorithms runtimes on processor RISC-V has shown that SHA-1, given same amount of characters as SHA-256, encrypts faster and that difference in encryption speed is increasing simultaneously with increase of characters which are being encrypted. Runtime of same algorithms is also analyzed on more commercial processor, Intel i5-2500, to compare runtimes and give better insight in general speed of processor RISC-V. Comparing runtimes of SHA-1 and SHA-256 cryptographic algorithms on processor RISC-V and Intel i5-2500, it is concluded that Intel i5-2500 has multiple times higher speed than RISC-V and that decrease in encryption speed when using larger number of characters is considerably smaller than on RISC-V processor.
