Abstract

Shapefile je jedan od ranije razvijenih formata za zapis prostornih podataka. Nužno se sastoji od tri istoimene datoteke s različitim ekstenzijama: geometrijska .shp, indeks .shx i tematska .dbf. Datoteka s geometrijskim oblicima služi za pohranu geometrijskih atributa značajki koje se prikazuju, datoteka s tematskim atributima za pohranu informacija kojima opisujemo značajku, a indeks za bržu pretragu geometrijskih oblika.
PostGIS je ekstenzija za PostgreSQL bazu podataka, koja pruža posebne tipove i funkcije za manipulaciju s prostornim podacima. Među novim tipovima su točka, linija i poligon koji se ne zadaju eksplicitno, već ih baza podataka konstruira pomoću dodanih unutarnjih mehanizama i time spašava programera od potencijalno mukotrpnog posla.
GeoTools je opširna knjižnica za manipulaciju i prikaz prostornih podataka u programskom jeziku Java. Zbog svoje prirode je savršena za pozadinsku obradu podataka na poslužitelju koji priprema podatke za web-stranice.
GeoServer je poslužitelj otvorenog programskog koda, razvijen GeoTools knjižnicom i pogodan za objavljivanje prostornih podataka na internet u nekome od standarda propisanih od strane Otvorenog geoprostornog konzorcija. Ti su standardi također dobro podržani od strane knjižnica za prikaz prostornih podataka na web-stranicama, pa je GeoServer izvrstan odabir za pristup prostornim podacima. Povrh svega rečenog, iznimno je jednostavan za korištenje.
OpenLayers je JavaScript knjižnica za prikaz prostornih podataka. Laka je za svladati i vrlo je popularan izbor zbog svjetskog trenda razvijanja više web-stranica u odnosu na klijentske programe.

Abstract (english)

Shapefile is one of the early developed formats used for storing geospatial data. It consists of three mandatory files: shapefile .shp, index .shx and dBase file .dbf. The shapefile is used for storing the geometry attributes of features, the dBase file is used for storing the theme atributes of the features and the index enhances the search of the geometry atributes.
PostGIS is an extension to the PostgreSQL database. It offers special types and functions for spatial data manipulation. Among the new types are the point, the line and the poligon, which are not explicitly defined, but are rather constructed by new mechanism added by the extension, thus saving programers from potentially tedious task.
GeoTools is a robust library for manipulting and visualizing geospatial data in Java programming language. Because of its nature, it is perfect for background data processing on a server publishing geospatial data.
GeoServer is an open-source server, developed using GeoTools library. It is convenient for publishing geospatial data on the internet in one of the standards issued by the Open Geospatial Consortium. These standards are also well supported by libraries for visualization of geospatial data on web pages. GeoServer is therefore an excellent choice for accessing geospatial data form a web page. On top of all that, it is very user-friendly.
OpenLayers is a JavaScript library for visualization of geospatial data. It is easy to master and it's a popular choice because of the worldwide trend of chosing developing a web page rather than a client-side application.
