Abstract

A fault-tolerant control methodology that adapts the wind turbine generator operation to reallocate the stress from damaged rotor or stator parts to healthy generator area while achieving the safe operation and extracting the maximum available power in the faulty state is proposed in the thesis. Generator stator flux or torque building current are modulated based on the instantaneous rotor flux position to suppress the rapid development of some of the most common generator electromechanical faults. The methodology is suitable for all of the wind turbine generator types: squirrel-cage and doubly-fed induction generators, as well as permanent magnet and wound-rotor synchronous generator. Methods are conceived as modular extensions to conventional wind turbine control system and can be applied to new or already installed wind turbines. Common machine control approaches are improved with more sophisticated and robust estimation and parameter identification algorithms. Extensive simulations are performed for validation of the proposed methodology with detailed verifications of its known possible negative side effects using certified tools. In addition, scaled experimental set up is used to back theoretical considerations and validate the methodology robustness.

Abstract (croatian)

U disertaciji je predložena metodologija na kvarove otpornog upravljanja koja prilagođava rad generatora vjetroagregata tako da preraspodjeljuje opterećenja s oštećenih dijelova rotora ili statora na preostala područja generatora na način da se omogući siguran rad i postigne maksimalna proizvodnja energije u kvarnom načinu rada. Statorski tok ili moment generatora modulirani su u odnosu na trenutni položaj toka rotora da bi se suzbio brzi razvoj nekih od najčešćih elektromehaničkih kvarova generatora. Predložena metodologija pogodna je za sve tipove generatora vjetroagregata: kavezni ili dvostruko napajani asinkroni generator te sinkroni generator s permanentnim magnetima ili namotima na rotoru. Metode su koncipirane kao modularna nadogradnja na klasične načine upravljanja vjetroagregatom te se mogu primijeniti na nove ili već postavljene vjetroagregate. Uobičajeni pristupi upravljanja električnim strojevima unaprijeđeni su s točnijim i robusnijim estimacijskim algoritmima te identifikacijom parametara. Provedene su opsežne simulacije za validaciju predložene metodologije s detaljnim provjerama mogućih negativnih utjecaja uz korištenje akreditiranih alata. Skalirani laboratorijski postav dodatno je korišten za potvrdu teoretskih razmatranja i validaciju robusnosti metodologije.
