Voda ima značajnu ulogu u razvoju biljaka i za procese u tlu. Prevelika ili premala količina vode nepovoljno utječe na normalan rast i razvoj biljaka. U svrhu kvalitetnog upravljanja vodnim resursima i optimiranja sustava navodnjavanja, potrebno je motriti vodni status biljke.
