Abstract

WebAssembly novija je tehnologija u razvoju aplikacija primijenjenih za web-preglednike. Razlog njezinog razvitka jest omogućavanje izrade web-aplikacija u nekom od
jezika koji nisu napravljeni za web te tako zadržati dobre performanse tih jezika na samom webu. Time je omogućeno da se aplikacije koje su mogle biti samo Desktop, izvode
i postavljaju na web-preglednicima. WebAssembly tehnologija donosi više prednosti u
odnosu na sveprisutan JavaScript u razvoju web-aplikacija: gotovo izvorna... More brzina koda,
efikasnost, prenosivost, sigurnost. Važno je napomenuti kako WebAssembly nije napravljen kako bi istisnuo korištenje JavaScripta i postojećih web-tehnologija, već da se
s njima integrira i izvuče maksimum iz svake tehnologije. U ovom radu, uvodi se čitatelja u teorijske osnove WebAssembly jezika, njegovu prisutnost u današnjem IT svijetu, usporedbu njegovih performansi s ostalim sličnim tehnologijama te se opisuju dodatne tehnologije koje su potrebne za njegovo korištenje. Osim toga, na primjeru Snake
igrice prikazuje se primjena WebAssemblyja u game developmentu, korištenje Emscripten kompajlera, kako Wasm funkcionira kada se koriste dodatne biblioteke (SDL2) te
kako se Wasm integrira s postojećim web-tehnologijama. Less

Abstract (english)

WebAssembly is a newer technology in the development of applications for the web
browsers. The reason for its development is enabling the web applications to bi written
in a programming language that is not made for the web and in that way to keep the performances of those languages on the web itself. In that way, it is enabled for Desktop applications to be on the web. WebAssembly technology brings more than one advantage to
the web development in regard to very popular JavaScript: near... More native speed, efficiency,
portability, safety. It is important to say that WebAssembly’s goal is not to deprecate
JavaScript and other web technologies, it’s goal is to integrate with them and to get the
most out of them. In this paper, the reader is introduced to the theoretical fundamentals of WebAssembly language, his presence in today’s IT world, comparison between
his performances and the performances of other technologies and the technologies that
are necessary for using WebAssembly are also described. Additionally, the Snake game
example provides a demonstration of WebAssembly usage in game development, the use
of the Emscripten compiler, how Wasm functions with additional libraries (SDL2), and
how Wasm integrates with existing web technologies. Less
