Abstract

Vremenskom prognozom pokušavaju se predvidjeti razina temperature, vlage i ostalih vremenskih čimbenika u nekom budućem vremenskom periodu. Koristeći razne računske metode nad prikupljenim meteorološkim podacima, meteorolozi predviđaju kako će se mijenjati vrijeme na određenoj lokaciji u bližoj budućnosti. Predikcije vremena uglavnom se računaju za velika područja, na kojem zbog razlika na terenu vremenski uvjeti mogu biti nejednoliki. Jedan od načina poboljšanja točnosti predikcija za idućih nekoliko sati je korištenje stvarnih podataka s meteoroloških postaja i njihova usporedba s predviđenim vrijednostima. Općenito se danas, kao sredstvo za razne predikcije, koristi strojno učenje. Za predikciju možemo koristiti razne algoritme strojnog učenja, među njima i neuronske mreže. Za ovaj problem odabrani su LightGBM model te Long Short-Term Memory neuronska mreža (LSTM). Korišteni su podaci Državnog hidrometeorološkog zavoda i stanice u zgradi Fakulteta elektrotehnike i računarstva u Zagrebu, iz razdoblja od travnja 2018. do prosinca 2021. godine. Rezultati rada pokazuju da primjena strojnog učenja i odabranih modela daje precizniju prognozu od inicijalno predviđene.

Abstract (english)

Weather forecasting aims to predict the levels of temperature, humidity and other meteorological factors for a future time period. By analysing collected meteorological data using various computational methods, meteorologists predict the changes in weather at a certain time and location. Weather predictions are usually computed for large areas, where differences in terrain lead to inconsistencies in weather conditions. One method of improving the reliability of short-term weather predictions is to compare them with the real-time meteorological data and make corrections. Machine learning is a widely used tool for making predictions in complex systems, with many standard algorithms in use. The models we used were LightGBM and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network. The data used was collected by the State Hydrometeorological Institute and the weather station at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing for the time period from April 2018 to December 2021. The results show that applying the chosen machine learning algorithms improves the accuracy of the initial weather forecast.
