Abstract

Heterogeni višejezgreni sustavi razvili su se zbog sve većih zahtjeva elektroničkih uređaja za višim performansama i nižom potrošnjom energije. Kod ovakvih sustava moguće je raspoređivanje zadataka na više različitih procesorskih jezgri prilagođenih različitim zadacima, što omogućuje efikasnije obavljanje zadataka uz manju potrošnju energije. U sklopu ovog rada proučen je heterogeni sustav za rad u stvarnom vremenu temeljen na Verdin iMX8M Mini modulu. Glavna komponenta sustava je NXP i.MX 8M Mini sustav na čipu koji sadrži četiri aplikacijske (Cortex-A) i jednu jezgru namijenjenu niskoj potrošnji (Cortex-M). Ovaj sustav na modulu nalazi se na Verdin razvojnom sustavu. Na Cortex-A jezgrama izvodi se Linux operacijski sustav, TorizonCore distribucija (temeljena na Yocto razvojnom okviru). Na Cortex-M jezgri izvodi se operacijski sustav FreeRTOS, a za izradu aplikacija koristi se MCUXpresso SDK. Za komunikaciju između Cortex-M i Cortex-A jezgri testirane su RPMsg komunikacija i izravna komunikacija putem dijeljene memorije korištenjem datotečnog sustava i izravnog upisivanja u fizičke adrese dijeljene memorije. Kao najpogodnije sučelje za komunikaciju između Cortex-M i Cortex-A jezgri pokazalo se izravno upisivanje u fizičke adrese dijeljene memorije zbog brzine i svojstava sustava za rad u stvarnom vremenu.

Abstract (english)

The rise and evolution of heterogeneous multicore systems was driven by the increasing demands on electronic devices for higher performance and lower power consumption. These systems enable assignment of tasks to different processor cores, specifically designed for particular task types, what enables more efficient processing and lower power consumption. In this thesis a heterogeneous real-time system based on the Verdin iMX8M Mini module was studied. The main component of this system is the NXP i.MX 8M Mini SoC containing four application (Cortex-A) cores and one low-power core (Cortex-M). This system-on-module is part of the Verdin development system. Linux operating system that runs on Cortex-A cores is based on TorizonCore distribution (which is based on the Yocto development framework). FreeRTOS runs on the Cortex-M core, and the MCUXpresso was used for application development. For communication between Cortex-M and Cortex-A cores, RPMsg communication and direct communication over the shared memory using the file system and direct writing to the physical addresses of the shared memory were tested. Direct writing to the physical addresses of shared memory turned out to be the most suitable interface for communication between Cortex-M and Cortex-A cores, due to its speed and real-time performance.
