Abstract

Raspodijeljeni informacijski sustavi imaju više komponenti od kojih su neke horizontalno skalabilne, odnosno moguće je pokretati više instanci iste komponente kako bi sustav mogao zadovoljiti povećane zahtjeve korisnika. Istražene su i uspoređene tehnologije otvorenog koda za kontejnerizaciju i orkestraciju. Za ovaj rad odabran je Kubernetes za orkestraciju, dok se za kontejnerizaciju koristio Docker. Stvoren je Kubernetes klaster i istraženo je na testnim primjerima kako automatski skalirati horizontalno skalabilne komponente. Edgar je informacijski sustav za automatsko ocjenjivanje programskih zadataka na FER-u. Proučena je njegova arhitektura, te su njegove komponente prilagođene za rad u Kubernetes klasteru. Testirano je automatsko skaliranje njegovih komponenti. Istražen je rad Kubernetesa u oblaku. Isproban je Google Kubernetes Engine, u kojem je stvoren klaster i pokrenuti testni primjeri.

Abstract (english)

Distributed information systems have several components, some of which are horizontally scalable. It is possible to run multiple instances of the same components so that the system can meet the increased demands of users. Open source technologies for containerization and orchestration were analysed and compared. For this work, Kubernetes was chosen for orchestration, while Docker was used for containerization. Kubernetes cluster was created and automatic horizontal scaling was tested on components of example applications. Edgar is an information system for automatic evaluation of program tasks at FER. Its architecture has been examined. Edgar’s components have been adapted to work in Kubernetes cluster and automatically scaled. Also, Kubernetes in the cloud was studied and tested on Google Kubernetes Engine using example applications.
