Abstract

U pokretnim mrežama nove generacije, koje su zasnovane na protokolu Internet Protocol (IP) koriste se razni pristupi problemu pokretljivosti uređaja i usluga. Najčešće primijenjena rješenja temeljena su na tehnologiji Mobile IP (MIP) s inačicama za protokole IPv4 i IPv6. Za razliku od ostalih postojećih pristupa, koncept mrežno-zasnovanog upravljanja pokretljivosti u IP mrežama ne zahtjeva ugradnju odgovarajuće podrške u krajnje pokretne čvorove. U ovome slučaju sve potrebne funkcionalnosti i kontrolni mehanizmi sadržani su u mreži pa osiguravaju IP pokretljivosti i kontinuitet sjednice neovisno o mogućnostima korisničkog uređaja. Ovaj rad analizira primjenjivost i općenite zahtjeve na rješenja mrežno-zasnovane IP pokretljivosti. Tri izabrana protokola (Proxy Mobile IPv4, Proxy Mobile IPv6, Network-based localized mobility management) prvo su uspoređena s klasičnim protokolima pokretljivosti, koji ovise o korisničkim uređajima, te potom detaljno opisani i analizirani. Definiran je kvalitativni model usporedbe karakteristika protokola pokretljivosti i dan je analitički model za ocjenu njihove učinkovitosti i performansi s naglaskom na proces prespajanja. Prijedlog protokola PMIPv4 je posebno obrađen i ispitan na oglednom laboratorijskom modelu u svrhu provjere primjenjivosti koncepta i dobivanja konkretnih rezultata za usporedbu te izrade prijedloga mogućih funkcionalnih poboljšanja.

Abstract (english)

There are numerous approaches enabling device and service mobility in IP-based next generation mobile networks. Most commonly used solutions are based on Mobile IP (MIP) mobility management protocol, both for IPv4 and IPv6 . Unlike other existing approaches that are host-based, the network-based IP mobility management concept achieves mobility and IP session continuity without requiring built-in mobility functionality in the mobile device. All the necessary functionalities and control mechanisms are comprised in the network, and perform mobility management on behalf of the mobile device. This thesis analyzes the challenges and requirements upon the network-based mobility management protocols and evaluates three designated protocols (Proxy Mobile IPv4, Proxy Mobile IPv6, Network-based localized mobility management). The protocols are analyzed, described, and compared against the competing host-based solutions. A model is defined for the qualitative evaluation of each protocol’s individual characteristics and functionality. Furthermore, an analytical model is proposed to evaluate protocol performance and efficiency, especially focusing on the handover process. The protocol PMIPv4 has been analyzed in more details. It was tested in a reference laboratory environment for proof of concept, and for obtaining precise results for performance comparison and guidelines for potential functional optimizations.
