Abstract

U ovom radu detaljno je opisan postupak modeliranja sustava za karakterizaciju inline Ethernet konektora. U koracima je prikazano kako pristupiti modeliranju te kako razviti sklopovski model za svaki pojedini dio sustava za karakterizaciju inline Ethernet konektora, izuzev samog konektora. Na kraju smo napravili proces de-embeddinga kako bismo izvukli mixed-mode S-parametre koji nas zanimaju te koji nam služe za karakterizaciju samog inline Ethernet konektora. S pristupom koji je predstavljen u ovom radu, sposobni smo predvidjeti vladanje samog Ethernet konektora, bez utjecaja kompletnog mjernog sustava, čiji smo utjecaj isključili procesom de-embeddinga. Najveća prednost ovakvog pristupa je to što možemo umjesto konektora koji je okarakteriziran u ovom radu, staviti bilo koji drugi konektor, te jednostavno izvuči njegove karakteristike. Zbog toga, ne moramo se baviti osmišljanjem kompleksnih sklopovskih modela samog konektora, niti je potrebno osmisliti zaseban sustav za karakterizaciju svakog pojedinog konektora. Bitno je reći da ovim pristupom gotovo sa savršenom preciznošću možemo predvidjeti vladanje RL i IL parametara. Što se tiče LCL i LCTL parametara, ovim pristupom sposobni smo predvidjeti samo gornju granicu njihove magnitude, dok stvarnu krivulju nismo u stanju predvidjeti. Zbog toga što je vladanje LCL i LCTL parametara veoma nepredvidivo i nasumično, jako je teško predvidjeti njihovo stvarno vladanje. No, to nam ne predstavlja problem upravo zbog toga što nas zanima isključivo je li pojedini konektor zadovoljio neku specifikaciju ili nije, a za to nam je bitno da znamo gornju granicu magnitude pojedinih mixed-mode S-parametara, jer ona određuje najgori mogući slučaj koji je i ujedno i najkritičniji.

Abstract (english)

This work covers the detailed modelling and characterization procedure of an Inline Ethernet connector test setup. It is shown how to approach the modelling step by step and how to develop a circuit model for each part of the test setup, except the actual connector. In the end, the de-embedding process is performed in order to obtain the mixed-mode S-parameters of interest for the Ethernet connector individually. With the approach presented in this work, we are able to predict the Inline Ethernet connector behaviour individually, without the influence of the test fixture, which is excluded by performing the de-embedding process. The main advantage of the approach presented in this work is that we can replace the Inline Ethernet connector with any connector of interest and predict it's individual behaviour. This means that we don't have to focus on developing a very complex connector circuit model or on creating a specific test setup for every single connector. It is important to note that we are able to predict the RL and IL parameters behaviour highly accurate, whereas the LCL and LCTL parameters behaviour still remains uknown. Because the behaviour of LCL and LCTL parameters is very unpredictable and random, we are only able to predict the upper limit of their magnitude, which is actually everything we need to claim did the connector passed or failed the specification if you consider that the only thing that interests us is if the connector passed or failed the limit lines defined in the specification.
