Abstract

PET snimke su sastavljene od mnoštva presjeka kroz tijelo pacijenta i sadrže u
sebi informacije o metabolizmu promatranog organizma, koji se očituje kroz raspodjelu glukoze u tkivima. Segmentacijom se iz PET snimaka mogu izdvojiti navedena područja i potom prikazati kao 3D model. U ovom radu implementirani su izrastajući deformabilni modeli, odnosno metoda aktivnih geometrijskih kontura pri modeliranju tumora laboratorijskih životinja. Rezultati su uspoređeni s rezultatima dobivenim drugim metodama. Za implementaciju je korišten sustav Matlab, zbog jednostavnosti rada pri obradi slike i volumena. Pokazano je da metoda geometrijskih aktivnih kontura daje zadovoljavajuće rezultate pri segmentiranju grupiranih objekata, dok kod udaljenih objekata dolazi do gubitka informacije. Dodatno, metoda je vremenski zahtjevna
u usporedbi s jednostavnijim metodama.

Abstract (english)

PET scans consist of multiple images representing slices through patient’s body,
containing information on its metabolism. The metabolism is presented by glucose
distribution in different tissues. These areas can be segmented from PET scan and
modelled in 3D. In this paper, deformable models have been implemented – more specifically, the active contours method – when modeling laboratory animals cancer tissue. The results are then compared to those calculated by other methods. Matlab is used for implementation, because of its simplicity in processing image and volume data. It is shown that the geometric active contours method gives satisfying results when segmenting grouped objects, but fails if objects are divided by great gaps. Moreover, this method is extremely time-consuming compared to other, primitive methods.
