Abstract

This doctoral research deals with the extension of the mediator-wrapper architecture for heterogeneous data source integration. Scenarios that require the addition of diverse system access interfaces where the mediator-wrapper architecture underperforms are identified. Therefore, an extension of the mediator-wrapper architecture is proposed by the addition of a new component type called a mask. The mask presents a new layer in the mediator-wrapper architecture, effecting the creation of a mask-mediator-wrapper architecture. The proposed architecture is observed in modern technical aspects by including the consideration of architectural quanta. The proposed architecture is examined through qualitative and quantitative analyses, and case studies emulating a legacy data store preserving system and a data mesh.
The mask is observed as a generic, prefabricated, and configurable component that can be implemented in various mask kinds. Masks are proposed to be uniformly developed components by using a mask framework.
The translation of data in masks is bidirectional. Bidirectional simple symmetric lenses are determined as the method of choice for data translation, treated as a design pattern and implemented. A testing framework is created for determining the behavedness of the implemented lenses.
A mask-mediator-wrapper system, called Janus, is presented as a prototype to satisfy the need for empirical proof and experimentation. Janus supports implementing masks through a mask framework in ten general steps. The qualitative analysis and case studies are confirmed by the deployment of Janus components in different architectural topologies.

Abstract (croatian)

Ovo doktorsko istraživanje bavi se proširenjem arhitekture miritelj-omotač za sustave integracije heterogenih izvora podataka. Identificirani su scenariji koji zahtijevaju dodatak raznolikih sučelja za pristup sustavima gdje arhitektura miritelj-omotač nije dovoljno učinkovita. Stoga se predlaže proširenje arhitekture miritelj-omotača dodavanjem nove vrste komponente nazvane maska. Maska predstavlja novi sloj u arhitekturi miritelj-omotač, što rezultira stvaranjem arhitekture maska-miritelj-omotač. Predložena arhitektura promatrana je u suvremenim tehničkim aspektima uz uključivanje razmatranja arhitekturnih kvanata. Predložena arhitektura ispituje se kroz kvalitativne i kvantitativne analize te studije slučaja koje emuliraju sustav za očuvanje naslijeđenih pohrane podataka i mrežu podataka.
Maska se promatra kao generička, unaprijed izgrađena i konfigurabilna komponenta koja se može implementirati u različitim vrstama maski. Predlaže se da maske budu jednolično razvijene komponente korištenjem okvira za maske.
Translacija podataka unutar maski je dvosmjerna. Bidirekcionalne jednostavne simetrične leće određene su kao metoda za dvosmjernu translaciju podataka, tretirane kao oblikovni obrazac i implementirane. Stvoren je okvir za testiranje radi određivanja ponašanja implementiranih leća.
Sustav maska-miritelj-omotač, nazvan Janus, predstavljen je kao prototip kako bi se zadovoljila potrebu za empirijskim dokazima i eksperimentiranjem. Janus podržava implementaciju maski putem okvira za maske u deset općenitih koraka. Kvalitativna analiza i studije slučaja potvrđuju se implementacijom Janus komponenti u različitim arhitekturnim topologijama.
