Abstract

U radu je istražena upotreba servisne mreže u modernim arhitekturama mikroservisa. Istraživanje se fokusira na razumijevanje koncepta servisne mreže, integraciju u arhitekturu, te procjenu njihove učinkovitosti kroz realistične simulacije "kaosa". U radu se koristi Kubernetes za podizanje već definirane arhitekture mikroservisa. Istio, popularni alat za ostvarivanje servisnih mreža, koristi se za omogućavanje naprednih funkcionalnosti poput usmjeravanja prometa i mjerenja tolerancije na pogreške. Dodatak Flagger omogućuje provedbu canary deploymenta gdje se promet postupno preusmjerava na nove verzije aplikacija. Koncept inženjerstva kaosa koristi se kako bi se provjerila robusnost mreže tako što se umjetno umeće dodatan stres. Alat Kiali za vizualizaciju koristi se za praćenje i rješavanje problema u arhitekturi. Istraživanje ima za cilj pružiti vrijedne uvide i preporuke za usvajanje servisne mreže u stvarnim aplikacijama.

Abstract (english)

This master’s thesis investigates the use of service mesh in modern microservice
architectures. The research focuses on understanding service mesh concepts, integrating them into architecture and deployment pipelines, and assessing their effectiveness
through realistic "chaos" simulations. The study employs Kubernetes to deploy a predefined microservice architecture. Istio, a popular service mesh framework, is used to
enable advanced functionalities such as traffic routing and fault tolerance. The Flagger
plugin facilitates canary deployments for gradual traffic rerouting. Chaos engineering
scenarios are employed to stress-test the service mesh implementation. The Kiali visualization tool is used to monitor and troubleshoot the architecture. The research
aims to provide valuable insights and recommendations for adopting service mesh in
real-world applications.
